Dr. Robert E. Brown, Ph.D. English (University of Rochester), B.S. Economics (Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania) is an Emerson College Affiliated faculty member with the Communication Studies department, having retired as (Full) Professor Emeritus in August 2019 from Salem State University. Dr. Brown is the author of The Public Relations of Everything (Routledge: 2014) and was a speechwriter for two Fortune 100 companies and a marketing manager for a third.

This course will cover the most effective ways to get media attention and have your message heard! Starting with the basics of who are the press and the relationship between PR and media. From there, how to create PR messaging such as an event advisory and the purpose of an opinion editorial, letter to the editor. Students understand why securing media coverage for an event/movement is important and how to successfully engage with the media. This course focuses on strategies using the ideas, tactics of traditional and digital public relations and strategic communications with a global scope.
