Vincent Raynauld

Dr. Vincent Raynauld, a native of Montreal (Quebec, Canada), Ph.D. (Carleton University School of Journalism and Communication), M.A. (Université Laval), B.S.(Université de Montréal). Dr. Raynauld  is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Emerson College and Affiliate Professor in the Département de lettres et communication sociale at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. He is also serving as Research Associate in the Groupe de recherche en communication politique (GRCP) and member of the academic advisory board of the non-profit organization Samara Canada. His areas of research interest and publication include political communication and campaigning, protest politics, social media, grassroots activism, political marketing, e-politics, and journalism. His work has appeared in French and English-language academic journals, including Social Media + Society, Terminal: technologie de l'information, culture & société, Information, Communication & Society, and American Behavioral Scientist. He speaks and writes fluently in French and English. 

Course: Using Social Media for Social Good

This course takes interest in how social media are progressively changing the ways in which a growing segment of the public perceive, understand, and participate in politics. Specifically, it explores how candidates during elections, elected officials, political parties, civil servants, and government agencies are using these digital media platforms for listening, reaching out to, and engaging with the public. It also takes a deep five into how members of civil society - individual citizens, protest moments, corporations - are turning to social media to make themselves heard, be active politically, and affect political change. This course offers insights into how social media can be used for public good, namele for informing and educating the public about political and policy issues and fostering trust and collaboration between civil society and the government.
